BALTIMORE — It's a moment of in-person excitement for little kids in part of the city.

On Friday, students at Yorkwood Elementary got to take part in a storybook character literacy day! Principal Tonya Redd says they do this event every year.

The pandemic of course, changed how they do it, but she says they wanted to keep it going to give some consistency to students as well as some love.

"It's also an opportunity for us to make sure that our students have the materials that they need moving forward so we were able to give them module texts that they need for their literacy, for their wit and wisdom program, their mathbook and manipulatives, and some other treats to help them as they're learning as well as to celebrate the holiday," Redd said.

Redd adds she also wanted to do this because her and her staff miss all their students and wanted to encourage them to keep learning.
