HANOVER, Md. — A 29-year-old Jessup man is dead after rear ending a truck at a high rate of speed Tuesday morning on MD-100.

Just after 5 a.m. Jamie Avila was driving a Honda Civic approaching MD-295, when he hit the back of a Freightliner Tractor that was headed west.

Avila died on scene. The truck driver wasn't hurt.

Police say the crash was likely caused by the speed Avila was traveling.

Drug and alcohol results are still pending.
