BALTIMORE — SoBo Cafe's parklet in South Baltimore was destroyed after a car drove through it.
Baltimore Police are actively investigating after an accident at Charles Street at W. Cross Street was reported around 1:00 a.m. Sunday.
The caller stated that a car had just driven through the cafe.
According to police, the involved car left the scene before police arrived.
In a Facebook post, SoBo Cafe stated:
"Our beautiful parklet was destroyed last night. Thankfully no one was hurt. This is a devastating blow to our business on top of an already difficult year. As always, we could use your support - We are happy to take your carry out orders and will continue to offer outdoor seating while we build things back up. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us today about this. Your kind words and support are what keeps us going. If anyone has footage in the area at around 12:50 am - it was a white Nissan Altima (probably 2018) - we need the plate number."
WMAR obtained video of the vehicle in question from the restaurant's owner.
"They basically took out 2/3 of our parklet and the car Lind was just out of control, came Into the Parklet almost went onto the curb, veered out and almost hit the parts car there and then went back out to Cross Street," said owner Anna Leventis.
As for the damage, Laventis said she plans to rebuild.
"A lot of hard work went into making it what it was before and that's my plan to do it again," she said. "The support I've received from neighbors has been wonderful."
