EDGEWOOD, Md. —
Shots in the dark raised fear of violence in Edgewood and hours later, the discovery of a shooting victim confirmed it.
“Around six o’clock a.m., our deputies were called down to the 1400 block of Hanson Road for a person that had been shot,” said Col. William Davis of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office,
“Upon deputies’ arrival, they did indeed find an African-American male who had been shot and who was deceased at that time.”
Deputies shut down surrounding streets and surveyed a nearby house with an apparent bullet hole in the window, as well as using metal detectors and a trained K-9 to try to find bullet casings at the scene.
The victim has now been identified as 22-year-old Denzel Shabazz Jones of Middle River, but investigators are withholding other information for now, like how many times the victim was shot and where he was struck.
In the meantime, they are assuring people who live in that area that they should have nothing to fear.
“Our investigation has led us to believe this certainly was not a random act of violence. This was what we believe to be a targeted incident. Yes,” said Davis, “We don’t believe we have a person running around and randomly shooting people or anything like that.”
Investigators are asking anyone in the neighborhood with doorbell cameras to review them for evidence that could help solve the case.
