BALTIMORE — The Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office says scammers are using their main office number to call and extort people out of money.

In some cases the caller tries scamming the victim by falsely claiming their social security number is linked to a stolen car.

The victim is often threatened with arrest if they don't comply with the suspect's financial demands.

Major Sabrina Tapp-Harper says the Sheriff's Office will never call anyone to notify them of a warrant or demand money to avoid arrest.

Anyone with information should call investigators at 410-396-1155.
