NEW CARROLLTON, Md (WMAR) — One person has died after a small plane crashed into a Prince George's County home Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened near Auburn and Chestnut Avenues in New Carrollton around 3:10 p.m., just after the plane had taken off from College Park Airport.

Prince George's County Fire officials said the plane crashed into a car that was inside an attached carport of a single family home, causing both to catch fire.

Maryland State Police said the pilot, 61-year-old Gordon Allen of New York was killed in the crash.

Luckily there were no other injuries, as no one was home at the time of the crash.

Neighbors told WMAR-2 News they saw the plane flying low and out of control, before hearing a boom and seeing the crash and flames.

At least 18 homes lost power in the area following the crash, according to officials.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
