PASADENA, Md. — Police on Monday prevented an elderly person in distress from driving into the entrance of a Pasadena Walmart.

Anne Arundel County Police were called after the man was seen inside a parked vehicle crying.

Officers tried unsuccessfully to get the man's attention, by waving their arms in the air and tapping on the car windows.

Then suddenly he accelerated, and began to erratically drive towards the store entrance.

The quick thinking officers were able to box the man in with their patrol cars to prevent a potentially dangerous scene.

Officials say the man continued to keep his foot on the accelerator, causing his car to smoke.

Meanwhile police say he still seemed confused and throughout the process.

Ultimately an officer got a lock out kit and was able to rescue the driver and take him to a hospital.
