ELLICOTT CITY — Howard County police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash in Ellicott City.

At about 5:19 a.m. on Monday, a 2015 Infiniti Q50 was traveling east on Baltimore National Pike (Route 40) approaching the ramp for Route 29 when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and hit a guardrail.

The driver and sole occupant, 24-year-old Cameron Collins of Sykesville, was taken to Howard County General Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

During the preliminary investigation, police believe icy road conditions may have contributed to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing. Route 40 east was closed for approximately three hours.
