PERRYVILLE, Md. — A Perryville man is facing murder charges after the body of his estranged girlfriend was discovered in his apartment Sunday night.

Maryland State Troopers were called around 7:30 pm to the 300-block of Broad Street.

There troopers met with a relative and friend of 43-year-old Jimmie G. Porter.

They told police that Porter hadn't shown up for work, which prompted them to go to the apartment and look for her.

Porter was found dead inside.

According to charging documents, she had been bludgeoned with a bloody hammer, which was still resting on the body.

Until recently Porter was staying at the apartment, which belongs to her estranged boyfriend, 55-year-old Sergio Rodriguez Jr.

Court records suggest she had gone back to the apartment to collect $350, her ex-boyfriend's share of the rent that she had already paid in full

Police say they found enough evidence at the scene to charge Rodriguez with the murder.

Shortly before 8:30 pm, officers in Havre de Grace stopped and arrested Rodriguez for suspected DUI.

He was later transferred into the custody of Maryland State Police, amid the murder investigation.
