Pedestrian struck, killed by fuel tanker truck Monday in Mt. Airy

MOUNT AIRY, Md. — A fuel tanker truck struck and killed a pedestrian on I-70 in Mount Airy, Monday morning.

It happened shortly after 6:30 am on the westbound side prior to route 27.

Maryland State Police say 27-year-old Lawrence R. Acton, of Walkersville, was walking in the third lane when he was hit.

The truck operator, a 49-year-old Baltimore man, was unable to stop in time to avoid collision. He remained on scene.

It's unclear why Action was walking in the middle of the interstate.
