LOTHIAN, Md. — A mother and father in Lothian are in custody after their 10-month-old child nearly died from ingesting opioids.

The investigation dates back to November 12 of last year, when Anne Arundel County Police and Fire were called to a home on Jaguar Drive.

There, a boy was found to be in respiratory distress.

Medics gave the child two doses of Narcan, which led to the belief that some form of opioid had been ingested.

The narcan had a positive affect and the boy's condition began to improve.

He's expected to make a full recovery.

Since then, prosecutors have charged 38-year-old Matthew Eric Joiner Sr. and Shelby Renee Butler, 23.

Each faces a count of child neglect and reckless endangerment.
