The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration announced the long-term closure of outer loop I-695 south to MD 144.
Transportation officials will close and detour the ramp for eight months as part of a reconstruction project funded to widen the ramp to meet the new alignment of the outer loop/southbound I-695.
Drivers traveling from the outer loop I-695 south to MD 144 will be detoured one mile south to the MD 372 Wilkens Avenue interchange. The detour will allow drivers to access the inner loop I-695 north back to the I-695/MD 144 interchange.
Officials are urging drivers to stay alert on the road and to be on the lookout for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.
MDOT SHA says the ramp is scheduled to re-open in April 2020 and the entire I-695 Southwest Outer Loop widening project is expected to be complete late fall 2021.
