One person killed after tree falls on moving vehicle in St. Mary’s County

ST. MARY'S COUNTY — A person was killed after a tree fell onto a moving vehicle in Maryland as Tropical Storm Isaias came through the area.

At about 9:33 a.m. on Tuesday, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office were notified of an accident on Three Notch Road in the area of Charlotte Hall Road in Mechanicsville.

Deputies say a large tree fell onto a moving vehicle, trapping the driver (sole occupant).

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and extracted from the vehicle.

Deputies are not releasing any additional information on the driver until next of kin is notified.

At this time, alcohol, drug impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision that has not yet provided a statement is asked to contact deputies at (301) 475-4200 extension 72337.
