ROSEDALE, Md. — A victim shot in Rosedale on Sunday is just 6-years-old, and was asleep when he was wounded by a next door neighbor, police say.

It happened around 7 a.m. in the unit block of Capella Court.

Deyonna Nykeima Charles, 29, was apparently inside her home next door, trying to unload her boyfriend's gun when it discharged.

The bullet ended up firing through a wall that leads to the boy's bedroom.

Charles has since been freed on her own recognizance, but faces charges of second degree assault, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm.

Police say her boyfriend, 28-year-old Corey Jarard Nash, is a previously convicted felon who's prohibited from having a gun.

He's being held without bail on firearm possession and ammunition charges.

The child is expected to survive, according to police.
