BALTIMORE (WMAR) — The Maryland Democratic Party has chosen a new chairwoman.

On Saturday evening, the Maryland Democratic State Central Committee elected Yvette Lewis to replace Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, who resigned to run for her late husband, Elijah Cummings 7th Congressional District seat.

Lewis is a familiar face to Maryland Democrats, as she previously chaired the party from 2011 through 2015. She will now hold the position again at least through December 2022.

Maryland State Senator Cory McCray had been leading the party on an interim basis since, Rockeymoore Cummings departure.
