BALTIMORE — Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby joined other criminal justice leaders to talk about the decriminalization of marijuana.

Congressional Cannabis Caucus co-chair Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-13) along with Rep. Earl Blumenauer (OR-3) joined Mosby and other criminal justice leaders for a virtual press conference on Wednesday.

During the event, they discussed the importance of moving away from the criminalization of marijuana while urging Congress to move on the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment & Expungement (MORE) Act (H.R. 3884) in September.

The MORE Act would decriminalize marijuana at the federal level, expunge previous convictions and establish grant programs to benefit communities disproportionately harmed by the war on drugs.

They discussed Americans continue to demand changes to the criminal justice system that will promote public safety and address racial disparities, reforming federal laws that criminalize marijuana is a critical step in the fight for justice.

At the press conference, national groups released and discussed new polling from Data for Progress, The Justice Collaborative Institute, Fair and Just Prosecution (FJP) and the Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP) showing strong bipartisan support for marijuana decriminalization and legalization.

The report and polling showed that a majority of voters agree that marijuana tax dollars would be valuable revenue for states, and even in states where the drug remains illegal, there is agreement across party lines that marijuana arrests should be curtailed.
