Two brick colonial buildings were destroyed in an early morning fire on Saturday.
Officials say the fire in the historic district of Cumberland was reported by a cab driver who happened to be passing by. 125 firefighters responded to the blaze and it took them close to four hours to extinguish it.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials have determined that it started at 29 Prospect Square and spread to 27 Prospect Square. Both buildings suffered fire and heat damage.
29 Prospect Square is occupied by the Delaney and Bender Law firm as well as individual apartments; 27 Prospect Square is also apartments. Nobody was in either of the buildings at the time of the fire.
Investigators say an estimated $500,000 was done to both buildings.
No injuries were reported.
