JESSUP, Md. — A Anne Arundel County inmate has been sentenced to 35 more years behind bars for the 2018 murder of his cellmate.

On November 2 guards at the Jessup Correctional Institution noticed something blocking a jail cell window, making it impossible for them to see inside.

After ordering that it be removed, officers discovered David Stephenson in his cell face down in a pool of blood.

His neck, hands and feet had been bounded by an electrical cord.

He died on scene. Later the medical examiner ruled his death a homicide by means of blunt force trauma.

At the time, 31-year-old Joseph Patrick Soule had shared the cell with Stephenson.

He claimed in court that Stephenson had attacked him from behind, but prosecutors countered with forensic evidence suggesting otherwise.
