DUNDALK, Md. — A Giant Food employee at a store in Dundalk has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The grocery store chain says the associate has not worked since March 13, but they have taken the precaution of requiring this associate, as well as additional associates that were working with the affected individual, to quarantine themselves.

The exact location of the store is 1400 Merritt Blvd, Dundalk, Maryland.

All of those required to self-quarantine will receive sick pay during their period of recovery and quarantine, the company said.

They added that authorities were told quickly and associates who may have been in close contact with the person diagnosed were warned as well.

The grocery store chain also added that they took the necessary precautions to thoroughly clean and disinfect affected areas of the store. They're continuing to work closely with health authorities to ensure they are doing everything possible to protect the health and safety of their associates and customers while keeping stores open and accessible.

Over the last several weeks, Giant Food stores have put in place additional measures to ensure the safety of associates and customers, including plexiglass shields at registers, pharmacies, and customer service desks.

They have installed social distancing signage in stores to remind and encourage customers to stay 6 feet apart from each other, and they have increased cleaning and sanitation procedures on high-touch areas throughout the store.
