Former Senator Ulysses Currie has died.

Senate President Thomas V. Miller released the following statement on Friday:

“I woke up this morning to the sad news of the passing of former Senator Ulysses Currie. Senator Currie’s story is the story of the best of our state and this country. He grew up the son of a sharecropper in North Carolina, and was the first in his family to graduate from college. After serving in the US Army, he received his Masters degree in education and spent 30 years as a teacher and principal in Prince George’s County. He was a valued member of the Senate, and was loved by all who came in contact with him. He was a colleague, mentor, and friend, and I will miss him very much. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife the Reverend Shirley Gravely-Currie and his entire family on their loss."
