BALTIMORE — Douglas W. Franchot Jr., the WWII veteran, retired lawyer and father of Comptroller Peter Franchot, has passed away at the age of 97.
The Comptroller of Maryland announced his passing on social media on Thursday.
Sadly this morning, Comptroller Franchot's father passed at the age of 97. A WWII veteran, lawyer, beloved father (and grandfather & great-grandfather!), Douglas Franchot lived on a long and full life, and we wish the Franchot family a time of remembrance full of love and peace. pic.twitter.com/t8GMcGDvQA

Comptroller Franchot stated in a Facebook post that his father died peacefully Thursday morning.
"I'm heartbroken but, at the same time, I'm grateful and relieved that he was alert, in good spirits and free of pain in the days leading up to his death," Franchot said.
