OXFORD, Miss. (WMAR) — Former University of Maryland head football coach DJ Durkin has found a new coaching job.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin announced the hiring on Thursday. It's unclear what Durkin's specific coaching function will be.

Durkin, 41, was fired on October 31, 2018 following an investigation into the death of football player Jordan McNair.

Prior to his firing, Durkin was briefly reinstated after spending two months on administrative leave.

Aside from Durkin, the fallout of McNair's death resulted in the dismissal of head trainer Wes Robinson, assistant athletic director Steve Nordwall.

Additionally, the school’s entire athletic training and medical staff were reassigned to the Division of Student Affairs in the University Health Center

Durkin has since spent time in a consulting role with the University of Alabama and most recently the Atlanta Falcons.

During his two year tenure in Maryland, Durkin compiled a 10-15 record.
