CARROLL COUNTY — A 21-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting his dad multiple times in the chest at their Carroll County home.
On Saturday at about 12:44 p.m., Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, along with the Maryland State Police and Fire / Rescue personnel, responded to the 100 block of Marydell Drive in Westminster, for the report of a 49-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest.
EMS personnel tended to the victim on the scene, but the victim was soon pronounced dead.
Deputies identified the victim as Stephen Hartman, who lived at the Marydell Road address.
Initial investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit revealed that the suspect was 21-year-old Lucas Hartman, from the same address, and the son of the victim.
Lucas Hartman is accused of shooting Stephen Hartman multiple times with a 9mm firearm.
He has been charged with first-degree murder, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence.
Detectives are continuing the investigation to determine the events leading up to the shooting.
Lucas Hartman is currently in custody at the Carroll County Detention Center.
