14-year-old charged after accidentally shooting 15-year-old friend inside Edgewood home

HARFORD COUNTY — A 15-year-old was injured after deputies say his 14-year-old friend accidentally shot him inside an Edgewood home.

At about 12:38 a.m. on Monday, Harford County deputies responded to the 800 block of W. Spring Meadow Court in Edgewood for a report of a shooting.

When deputies arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy shot in the upper body. Deputies immediately rendered first aid until medics arrived.

The 15-year-old was taken to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital for treatment of what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation indicates the victim was at a 14-year-old friend's home in Edgewood when they found a gun inside a closet.

Deputies say while the 14-year-old was handling the gun, the gun accidentally discharged and shot the victim.

The teens were home alone at the time of the incident.

As a result of the investigation, the 14-year-old was charged with reckless endangerment and was released into the custody of a guardian.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. There are no further details being released at this time.
