CUMBERLAND, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of two people and hospitalized two others in Alleghany County.

Officials say around 1 a.m., troopers were called to the single-vehicle crash on eastbound Route 40.

An investigation revealed that the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, identified as 18-year-old Mariah Shoemaker, drove off the right side of the road. They say the two men passengers in her car, identified as 24-year-old Mathew Glaze and 18-year-old Allen Welch, were both ejected from the vehicle.

Police say Glaze and Welch were pronounced dead at the scene. Shoemaker and an additional passenger, identified as 19-year-old Shawna Mason, were taken to area hospitals with injuries.

At this time, investigators say alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the crash.

Consultation will be made with the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office regarding possible charges related to this crash.
