Boater killed in crash identified Wednesday

Anne Arundel County Fire, Maryland State Police and Natural Resources Police are investigating a boat collision on the South River near Turkey Point.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, 68-year-old Robert Stup of Fredrick was killed while he was in a 16-foot Jon boat in the South River.

The boat Stup and another rider were on was hit from the side by a 41-foot Cabin Cruiser. Both were thrown in the water; the other passenger was rescued by the Cabin Cruiser. The crash was off Turkey Point.

There was a 25-foot difference between the two boats.

Two people were in the 41-foot Cabin Cruiser. None of the people in the cruiser was hurt. The other person in the Jon boat had minor injuries.

Rescue divers searched until sundown Tuesday, Stup was recovered shortly after noon on Wednesday. The crash is still under investigation.
