Officer struck by vehicle in police-involved shooting Thursday

BALTIMORE — Baltimore Police are investigating a police involved shooting in the 2200 Block of E. Biddle Street just after 9 p.m.

The incident began after officers were responding to an area where they believed a vehicle involved in multiple armed robberies was located. The vehicle was spotted in a parking lot in the area and thats when officers began to enter the lot.

Officers attempted to speak with the driver, the driver refused the commands of the DAT officers, he accelerated the vehicle, striking Officer Thomas Smith head-on. At this time, Officer Smith fired two shots at the front windshield, striking 19 year-old Corey Dixon in the left hand and left shoulder.

The driver then fled the area before striking another vehicle in the 2000 block of East Preston Street. The suspect then bailed out of the vehicle and fled before being apprehended a short time later and taken to the hospital.

The officer was also taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
