AACO Sheriff's deputy injured in I-97 crash Thursday morning

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — A deputy from the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office was injured in a car crash on I-97 early Thursday morning.

At around 6:30 a.m., the deputy was traveling southbound on I-97, near the Waterbury Road overpass, when the at-fault vehicle backed into the travel portion of the roadway from the shoulder causing the collision between the two vehicles.

Both drivers were taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for precautionary reasons due to the mechanism of injury. It is unknown at this time whether or not alcohol was a contributing factor.

The deputy, a three-year veteran, was driving a marked Sheriff’s vehicle.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department will continue the investigation.
