CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward after a malnourished dog was abandoned overnight, at an animal shelter in Cumberland.

Surveillance footage shows a vehicle pulling up in the driveway of the Allegany County Animal Shelter on July 14 around 2:20 a.m.

Someone gets out holding what's believed to be the dog wrapped in a blue sheet.

It wasn't until hours later when staff got to the building, that the dog was discovered.

The dog, believed to be an adult Great Dane and Pit bull mix was too weak to stand and walk on his own.

“This emaciated dog desperately needed help, and there is no excuse for abandoning him in the middle of the night,” said Jennifer Bevan-Dangel, Maryland state director for the Humane Society of the United States. “We hope our reward helps find the person or persons responsible for the terrible condition this dog was found in.”

Officials say the dog is currently recovering at a veterinary hospital.
