ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY — A 60-year-old woman was killed in a vehicle crash in Anne Arundel County after she was hit by a car that ran a red light.

On Thursday, at about 11:00 am, officers responded to Muddy Creek Road at the intersection of Owensville Road, for a multi-vehicle crash.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on Muddy Creek Road approaching the intersection with Owensville Road.

A Silver Ford Fusion was traveling on Owensville Road, making a left turn onto northbound Muddy Creek Rd.

Witnesses indicated the traffic signal for southbound Muddy Creek Road was a steady red signal. The Ford Fusion entered the intersection and was hit by the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, a 60-year-old woman, was pronounced dead on the scene by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel.

She was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the primary cause of the crash appears to be the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee failing to obey the steady red traffic signal.

Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor in this crash. The Traffic Safety Section is handling the investigation.
