PERRYVILLE, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating two crashes in Cecil County Monday, that left three people dead and two others seriously injured.
The latest collision happened around noon on US Route 40 at Principio Parkway.
A car with three people inside was trying to cross over Route 40, when it was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer heading westbound.
The driver and back seat passenger died on scene. The front seat passenger was taken by helicopter to Shock Trauma Center.
Hours earlier, another deadly crash was reported on northbound I-95 in Perryville.
Police says several cars were already stopped for a separate crash, when a tractor trailer failed to slow down and rear-ended them.
That caused a four car chain reaction, killing 56-year-old Amy B. Spencer, of Colora, and injuring six others.
All lanes on Northbound I-95 were closed for several hours following the crash, causing long backups.
The cause of both crashes remain under investigation.
