The latest craze to hit social media finds young women comparing the size of their waists to a sheet of paper.
Watch ABC2 In Focus @ 6 to hear Dr. Steven Crawford, co-director of The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt, discuss this challenge and why it is dangerous for young girls.
In the A4 Challenge, young girls post pictures of themselves holding up an 8.3 inch A4 sheet of paper with the hashtag #A4Waist. To win the challenge, the girl’s waist must fit entirely behind the paper, held vertically.

The challenge reportedly originated in China and has spread worldwide, facing backlash from critics who say the trend promotes an unrealistic standard of beauty for young women.
