Dave McLean, senior vice president of Brothers Services Company, joined ABC2's In Focus to give viewers tips for removing snow and preventing damage to their homes, while staying safe.
McLean says it's dangerous not only for you, but also your home, to be on the roof attempting to clear snow on your own. He recommends having a professional come to clear roofs that cannot handle the weight of the snow.
One thing homeowners can do is fill a sock with some rock salt and throw it on the roof. McLean says that will help create a path for the melting.
Be sure to clear sidewalks, patios and decks as well. As the snow melts and refreezes, it will become heavier and harder to move.
