Posted

Overdoses claimed the lives of more than 1,200 people last year, and more than 300 in the first three months of this year.

And those are just the deaths in Maryland.

This week, a 17-year-old girl become Harford County's 29th fatal overdose victim, exceeding the total number for all of last year, and it's only Sept. 2.

It's an epidemic that the entire nation is dealing with. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports in 2014, the country hit a record number of overdose deaths, and more than six out of ten involved an opioid.

And since 1999, the number of deaths involving opioids has quadrupled.

America's top doctor, Dr. Vivek Murthy, is hoping to help, sending out a warning to every physician in the U.S.
