The mother of a Harlem Park Middle School student is speaking out after her son's teacher was caught on video using a racial slur in the classroom.

Erica Deminds said her son was in the class as his teacher used the "N" word and yelled earlier this week.

Baltimore City School Officials said that teacher is no longer employed with the school system and school leaders said the language was inappropriate and will not be tolerated.

Even so, Deminds says her son liked that teacher and so did she.

"I don't want people to see the video and think that she's such a monster, or she's a racist or she doesn't like black kids, absolutely not, she loves the children it was a messed up situation and you have to think about it, I have two teens, I can't deal with two, I can't imagine dealing with 34," Deminds said.

Deminds said while she isn't happy with the teacher, she didn't want her to be fired.

The teacher's union released a statement saying it stands behind the school system's decision.
