The changing of the guard at Baltimore's City Hall is about more than one person. Mayor Catherine Pugh is picking well-known Maryland democrats to help her steer the city forward.
Tisha Edwards will serve as chief of staff. Edwards ran the Baltimore City Public School System for a time. She served as interim city school's CEO between 2013 and 2014.
A current state delegate Peter Hammen will step in as Pugh's chief of operations. Since 1995 Hammen has represented parts of south and east Baltimore in Annapolis. Hammen was part of the fight to change the lyrics of our state song to eliminate its Confederate leanings.
And a familiar face will take over as chief of strategic alliances. Jim Smith is a former Baltimore County Executive and former associate judge on the Baltimore County Circuit Court. He ran the Maryland Department of Transportation during the O'Malley administration.
