Fact checks of the second debate

ABC2 News has worked with the fact checkers at Politifact to figure out who is fudging the facts, and who is telling the truth.

Trump said Clinton's interest in continuing Obamacare is really a push toward a single payer system.

"She wants to go to a single-payer plan, which would be a disaster," Trump said during the Sunday night debate at Washington University in St. Louis. "Somewhat similar to Canada. And if you ever noticed the Canadians, when they need a big operation, when something happens, they come into the United States in many cases because their system is so slow. It's catastrophic in certain ways. But, she wants to go to single-payer which means the government basically rules everything."

Clinton's website is clear, saying she will defend and expand The Affordable Care Act. In the past she's said she'll work to keep a repeal from happening. While Clinton said she wants a public option to be possible, she hasn't completely called for moving to a single payer system for everyone. That's why PolitiFact rates Trump's statement as: False.

Clinton said terrorist groups use statements Trump makes about Muslims to grow their ranks,

"You can look at the propaganda on a lot of the terrorist sites and what Donald Trump says about Muslims is used to recruit fighters," she said.

PolitiFact found an Al Shabaab video showing Trump calling for a, "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the U.S."

The video then urges American Muslims to leave our country and join the terror group. Then in March, Newsweek reported on an ISIS video featuring an audio clip from Trump. PolitiFact rates Clinton's statement: True.

Our colleagues at PolitiFact are doing something very cool. They've recorded the text of the entire second debate and added fact check notes to dozens of statements by each candidate. Click here to see the annotated transcript.
