Bariatric Surgery is a long-term solution to treating morbid obesity, but it takes more than surgery to help patients overcome their unhealthy weight.

Obesity is a chronic disease and needs to be treated as such, which is why doctors take a comprehensive approach to treating patients, including extensive preoperative education, nutrition and exercise guidance, mental and emotional help and support programs.

Over the last 15 years, Saint Agnes has performed over 7,500 bariatric procedures.

Dr. Andrew Averbach, Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence at Saint Agnes, and his patient, Jeffrey Knight, joined ABC2's In Focus to talk with Jamie Costello about weight loss surgery and how it changes lives.
