After a two hiatus traveling around Ecuador, I was back in the pool Tuesday anxious to continue my triathlon training.
Since I've been off for a few weeks, I decided just to swim instead of also lifting. I decided to swim half of a mile. I swam a pretty casual pace and finished the half mile in about 23 minutes, so I was feeling pretty good about that.
The Iron Girl sprint triathlon is Sunday, August 7 - only 32 days away. Now I'm starting to freak out. That leaves only four weekends between now and race day. I'll definitely have to do some combos during the week between now and then.
I'm planning to mostly concentrate on bike/swim combos. Unfortunately, I'm prone to shin splints and they can be very severe, so I'm going to wait until two weeks before race day to add impact running to my training routine.
My current plan includes weight training three times a week, swimming two or three times a week - at least once for distance and once for time and also biking three times a week, including spin classes.
Since, I'm newbie to triathlons, I'm not sure if this is a good plan - too rigorous or not tough enough. For those of you who have competed before, I'd love feedback on my plan. Also, what are your favorite bike routes or trails for training? I've heard the course in Columbia is hilly.
