The flu virus continues to spread in 43 states, including Maryland. causing health officials to urge people to get the flu shot if they have not already done so.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's latest report shows more than 14,000 cases across the nation. Flu activity is "high" to "extremely high" in 24 regions.
The report shows that in the week ending Feb. 4, Maryland experienced a low amount of influenza-like illnesses.
At least 20 children have reportedly died from the flu.
Influenza is a highly contagious viral infection and is more severe than the common cold. Symptoms include a fever or chills, headache and muscle soreness.
