Moderate drinking, between 8 to 12 drinks per week, can lead to decreased memory function.
A new study by researches at the University of Oxford found that people who drink moderately are more likely than light drinkers to develop memory loss.
Volunteers took brief cognitive tests and wrote down their drinking histories.
They then underwent brain scans, more cognitive tests and extensive memory and thinking tests.
Moderate to heavy drinkers did worse on a language fluency test that requires the volunteers to name as many words as they can beginning with a particular letter in a minute.
