High cholesterol rates are dropping in the U.S.

A new study released Thursday by the CDC shows high cholesterol rates among adults in the U.S. are sharply declining. 

The newest numbers show about 12% of adults over 20 have high numbers compared to 18% in 2000. 

High cholesterol is a key risk factor for heart disease, which is still the number one killer in the U.S.
