Congress debates Zika funding

Posted

WASHINGTON (AP) -- With experts warning that the Zika virus could spread to the U.S., the Senate has passed a bipartisan $1.1 billion measure to combat the threat.

President Barack Obama had sought nearly $2 billion but there have been objections from Republicans.

Democrats blocked one proposal that would have paid for the measure by cutting into the president's health care law. House Republicans favor spending even less.
