37 children die each year from being left in hot cars

37 children die on average from being left in hot cars every year.

That's according to a new report by the National Safety Council, a non-profit organization.

21 states have laws about the issue, including Maryland.

To avoid leaving children in cars, drivers can download "The Backseat App."

It sends alerts that remind them there's a child in the car, and can send information to others about the child's location.
