1/3 of American adults may be on drugs that can lead to depression

More than 1/3 of American adults may be using prescription medications that can lead to depression or suicide.

That's according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

It says some hormonal birth control pills, heart and blood pressure medications and painkillers may lead to those side effects.

Researchers say doctors and health care providers may be unaware of the increased depression risks because the drugs in question are so common.
