Maryland's Blue Ribbon schools for 2016 were announced Monday.
The six public school honorees are Shipley's Choice Elementary, Sunderland Elementary, Centerville Elementary, Manor Woods Elementary, Ronald McNair Elementary and Farmland Elementary schools.
The schools are recognized on the basis of rigorous national requirements for high achievement and significant improvement.
The schools will be invited by the U.S. Department of Education to apply to be national Blue Ribbon schools.
A dinner in Annapolis will be be held in honor of the winning schools in March.
