Students at the Penn-North Kid's Safe Zone will get a hands-on lesson in drone building and flying this week.
Global Air Media, a minority owned company in Baltimore specializing in the development of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), or drones, launched the week-long camp to spur interest in STEM-related fields such as robotics, engineering, math and electronics.
From Monday, March 28 to Friday, April 1, students will get a crash course in the commercial drone industry, with lessons on how to build and fly their own drones. Students will also take a trip to the Light City Festival at the end of the week.
The Association for Unmanned Aerial Systems International estimates that drones could create nearly 4,000 jobs in Maryland by 2018.
