A construction worker is dead after being trapped in a trench collapse this morning in Northwest DC.
He was working at a site for a new house on the 4600 block of Dexter Street when it happened. The fire department tried to free him from the 20-foot deep trench but were unable to.

Authorities say the area around the collapse was unstable, which complicated their efforts to rescue him.
