FREDERICK, Md. — Frederick police are asking for the public’s help finding a suspect wanted for assaulting a woman at a motel and illegally possessing a firearm.

Police identified 24-year-old Rendell Markeith Johnson as their suspect in a Dec. 19 assault at the Super 8 motel at 20 Monocacy Blvd. Johnson will be charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and offenses related to unlawful possession of a firearm when he is apprehended, police said. There are other open warrants for Johnson for unrelated matters.

On 10:01 a.m. on Dec. 19, police were called and told a woman had been assaulted at the motel. Responding officers found a woman who confirmed she had been assaulted in her room. Police began searching and securing the building in case her assailant was still there and potentially armed. After a thorough search of the room and other accessible areas, police determined their suspect was no longer present. Further investigation determined Johnson as the suspect.

Frederick Police ask anyone who knows about Johnson’s whereabouts to contact Detective David Dewees at 240-409-0280. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can share information via the department’s voicemail at 301-600-8477, through text message at 240-674-8477, or by email at fdpcrimetip@frederickmdpolice.org.
