A 51-year-old Germantown man has been arrested for harassing and stalking Miss Maryland, state police said.

Valencio Fernandes Pires, 51, of Germantown is charged with harassment, stalking and electronic mail harassment and is being held without bond at the Carroll County Detention Center.

Pires stalked Hannah Brewer, 19, of Carroll County, the current Miss Maryland.

Police believe Pires initially contacted Brewer in person at a planned Miss Maryland event on Aug. 15 in Hagerstown. Police said Pires can be seen in two photographs at the event, intently and intensely staring at Brewer.

Police believe Pires had also used social media and emails to attempt communication with her multiple times, even after requests were made for him to stop.
